A question often asked is about the services that we offer. Let’s see if these
explanations answer your questions. If not, don’t forget that Glam RN offers free consultations.
Coolsculpting® – the name is the trademarked term for the process of cryolipolysis, a topical or surface alternative to liposuction used as a medical procedure to assist with fat loss. It does not have the metabolic side effects that have been associated with liposuction. The process dates back to the 1970’s and medical studies on cold-induced panniculitis (inflammation that results in fat loss). This led to a theory that cold could be used in a controlled and selective manner to kill fat cells. Interestingly enough, this theory had initially been proposed by H. Haxthausen, a French medical researcher, in 1902. Surprisingly it was not tested until 2007 when Dr. Dieter Manstein used the process for targeted weight loss.
In essence by targeting a localized area that is exposed to cold, and by keeping it at a constant temperature, fat cells are neutralized but cells such as skin cells and neurons are not. The procedure has been well researched and tested, and has been given clearance by the FDA.
Novathreads – are hypodermic needles that are pre-loaded with a synthetic PDO or absorbable suture similar to those used in open heart surgery. These FDA approved sutures are some of the safest materials that can be used in the human body and the skin will fully absorb the sutures within six months without leaving scar tissue.
The sutures underneath the skin creates a “selective inflammatory response” that produces collagen which has a longer lasting result. This principle is the basis of numerous aesthetic procedures including fractional laser treatment, skin tightening treatments and micro-needling. By inserting the Novathreads underneath the skin, the creation of new collagen naturally tightens the skin during the healing process.
Kybella (registered trademark) – this is a FDA approved nonsurgical technique used to target the fat beneath the chin with a series of selective injections. The process uses deoxycholic acid, a synthetic form of naturally produced acid, injections to target the fat cells in the chin. The acid will gradually kill fat cells, which are metabolized by the body over the following weeks. Usually there is a series of 20 to 30 injections given in multiple treatments for optimal results. There are no incisions and in most cases the down time is minimal. The process is most effective in adults that are at least 18 years of age or older with moderate to severe fat beneath the chin.
As a nonsurgical procedure, there is little preparation required for Kybella. Still it is best to ere on the side of caution and to schedule the procedure before any major events or public appearances as there may be some bruising. During you free consultation, note any medical conditions such as bleeding issues, trouble swallowing, or pregnancy.
There are often minimal side effects that include minor pain, slight swelling, bruising or redness, and numbness. These often subside within two weeks. Once the treatments are completed the results should be long lasting. It should be noted that Kybella is not covered by most medical insurance policies as it is deemed a cosmetic procedure.
Next month we will explain some of the other procedures that we offer.
