Recent breakthroughs have eliminated the need for expensive and invasive

surgical procedures often associated with body enhancement or contouring, especially in areas that do not respond readily to diet and exercise. An example is “Coolsculpting,” otherwise known as cryolipolysis, which is a dramatic departure from traditional tumescent liposuction, ultrasound assisted liposuction or laser induced liposuction. Coolsculpting is but one of the services offered by Glam RN.

Approved for use in Europe in September 2009, and by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United Sates in September 2010, the theory behind Coolsculpting is that fat cells are more sensitive to cold temperatures than other types of surrounding body cells. Extensive study and observation of a medical phenomenon known as “popsicle panniculitis” gave rise to the theory. In layman’s terms this phenomena pertains to the swelling and redness in the cheeks of children hours after sucking on a Popsicle or ice cube. Dieter Manstein, MD, and R. Rox Anderson, MD, at the Massachusetts General Hospital initiated experiments with cool treatment for fat reduction, which contributed to the development of the current process.

The CoolSculpting procedure precisely targets selected areas for fat reduction. Controlled cooling crystallizes fat cells, and then, over a period of weeks, the body naturally processes the fat and eliminates the crystallized cells. In addition to eliminating the need for invasive surgery, this process has the added advantage of eliminating down time which typically allows you to return to a daily routine immediately. Typically an individual treatment lasts one hour for each part of the body being treated and will require two treatments, eight weeks apart to complete the process. However, it should be noted that the number and duration of treatments may vary.
